What about Landskreht (i think thats how its spelt) pikemen or are they too late for the period.
With crossbowmen, i was thinking would it be possible to give crossbow men a pavisse or large shield, thatthey wear on their backs the whole time and script them so when reloading they turn away from the enemy? Therefore being protected from incoming arrow during battle

Also its maybe too far away but English/Welsh lonbowmen companies could be cool and theres the Spanish, Almogavars and Catalans, rough frontiersmen dressed in crude leathers and furs fighting along the ancient roman lines of shield, javelins and short swords.

English sellswords are certainly a must. As an enthusiast in English history, I have read much about thier....erm....interventions in Italian politics..... would Sir John Hawkwood and the White Company be anachronistic?
But then again, that's what makes the idea of a game concerning warfare in Renaissance Italy so glorious.... it saw the widespread use of hired, standing armies. (Even if this was found mostly in the form of blaggards and brigands ;D)

well, Giovanni Acuto (italianization of John Hawkwood ;D) fought for the signorie of the late XIV century.
So, even though we abused this word lately, i have to say it's a bit anachronistic ;D
Anyway, who's recruitable in the mod?
I just found venetian venturers for hire, is it the same for ligurians and burgundians?
AND
Why don't you make them available in ye olde favourite tavern?

Even though I have been rather liberal with the timeline, English swordsmen would, alas, be far too anachronistic. But you can try cobbling together a "proto-English" company made up of Norman horse, foot and Saxon (German) archers.

Hireable venturers (en masse) = Burgundians, Ligurians, Croatians. Got to pay them off first. Occasionally hireable in taverns = Croatians in the east, Ligurians & Burgundians in the west, German archers in Trent. Hiring Venetian venturers was tossed in as a temporary lark (mainly for testing). Venice was usually a buyer, not a seller, of services. You'll usually find Croatians there. And, of course, you can also hire entire noble companies on a temporary basis (if you find a contractor).
