I like the idea. but forgive my ignorance of the time but were there 'revolutions' at that time, or just simple revolts. and secondly did they every succeed in changing powers in the long run?

Khalid can read and write Italian, and I'm working on learning it. Also, several testers are native Italians.

I'd like to put it as politely as possible, but I'm afraid no amount of smiling faces will make it sound any mellower. You say it's a mod made by Italian-speaking developers for Italian-speaking gamers. Why are we all speaking English, then? And... EDIT: Way a sec: I found the Suggest-a-Box thread. I'll be resuming my rant there.

Hey, I do not know if you still need quest suggestions, but here are two. Except for the connection to german nobles and Milan merchants, both quests are kind of non faction. Both are started with a lvl specific text box in either Venice or Mantua tavern.
The Stolen Rose. This is the small story of a kidnapped lady, a lustful merchant and the Lady's lover.
start text box appears when player is in Venice (and between lvl 3-8). "As a foreign looking young maid passes you, she whispers: come to the tavern tonight. She is away before you can catch her."
At the tavern awaits the lady Rose Hereward. When the player initiates dialogue:
"Before you stands a redhaired and greeneyed noblewoman. Her face reveals that she has recently been crying, and the dark shades below her eyes suggest a lack of sleep and nourishment. Her hand is shaking and her voice has a nervous tone. She straightens herself and speak: Thank you Lord for sending this one, your angel to help to me. Please Sir, listen to my tale of sorrow and let your conscience compel you to help me. I am the only child an heir of the late Sir Richard Hereward, one of the english kings lesser knights. Last year my dear father and I went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, I implored my father not to go, I knew he would not have the strength. But it was his wish to see the holy land before his death, how could I stop him! We went, Me, my father and my betrothed Sir John Fenwick. But we left my father dead in Jerusalem. Last week we arrived here in Venice, and our nightmare began. While my betrothed was out arranging our travel home to England, this monster of a sinful merchant cast his eyes on me. This wretched man, this common merchant, Marco Trasta. Why he put his evil eye on me I know not. But from he first saw me, he was all over me. He offered me jewels, he offered me love, he tried to buy me from my betrothed. But John saw him off and told him that his life would be at stake if he continued his course. Then two days after, when john was out again, I was drugged and imprisoned in a house by the city gate. The evil Marco, made sure I overhead it when his thugs convinced John that I had Left for Pavia with a young German knight. It broke him completely, since then I have been kept under guard here. But this night my maid have drugged the guard. How John could believe that I would leave I do not know. But I do know that the lustful monster Marco will leave for Milan with me in the morning. Please save me from his clutches. Rescue me and bring me to John in Pavia. Please help."
player responses: 1. Dear god! What a story, I will help you lady, even if it costs me my life. 2. Hrm... that is a sad story indeed, but tell me, your betrothed Sir Fenwick, is he a rich man? 3. I have no interest in making more enemies, whatever the good course. I leave you to your fate lady.
Lady Rose responses: 1. Thank you oh thank you kind sir, you are a noble spirit if not noble blood. Marco said we would leave in the morning, god speed. 2. Your soul is that of the mercenary. My John will pay you very well, but expect no rewards in the next life. Marco said we would leave in the morning, god speed. 3. You will not help? Your heart must be the blackest of black.
A small low lvl party spawns with lady Rose as prisoner. When/if it reaches Milan the mission is lost.
When the player encounters Marco Trasta's party: You catch up with the small party of villains. They are led by a mean looking overweight merchant. He growls at you: Hold there and announce your business.
player responses: 1. My business is that of crushing villains like you sir. Prepare for judgment! 2. You disgusting villain, kidnapper of innocent women, release your prisoner or I will send you to purgatory right now. 3. I will buy your captive. Name your price. 4. A mistake sir, I will be on my way.
Marco Trasta responses: 1. Die then, if you wish. (fight begins) 2. Hold HOLD HOLD STOP. Can we not talk of this? Bargain? Will you not pay to avoid bloodshed? 3. Weakling, you shall die for this! (fight begins) 4. Alright disturb us no more. (back to travel map)
player responses:(to 2.) 1. I will give you your life in exchange for the lady. 2. I will pay you 500 and your own life. 3. I will pay you 1000 and then you can keep your own life. 4. I will give you nothing villain! (fight begins)
Marco responses: 1. I will take YOUR life! (fight begins) 2. No deal! Kill them men! (fight begins) 3. Yes yes, I am a peaceful man, I agree. (lady joins party-party loses 1000money)
When the fight is over the lady will join player party. Now they must travel to Milan tavern to meet Sir John Fenwick.
At Milan tavern awaits the english knight Sir John Fenwick. When the player initiates dialogue: "As you enter the tavern with lady rose, a cry of joy sounds from the gloomy knight in the corner. Rose your back, my love. Who is this? the man I should thank and reward? Here good sir, takes this as a token of gratitude." (player gets 1200 money) (Mission won, medium xp reward)
Duel at Mantua This is a short story about a dishonest bully german knight who exploits his own strength and the weakness of others. The German, Frans Hallmann- a lesser knight, has made a living of starting heated discussions with weaker knights. He presses his victims to insult him and then he demands satisfaction by either money or blood. Usually he picks on the rich, and usually his victims choses to pay instead of dueling. But this time his victim(Henri De Someri) have neither money nor skill to fight him.
start When the player is between lvl 9-15 and in Mantua tavern. A text box appears: "In the corner of the tavern room you see an elderly knight of foreign looks. He is obviously distressed. When you catches his eye, he holds your gaze and waves you nearer."
When the player initiates dialogue: "The old white-bearded knight looks you straight in the eye and speaks with a heavy french accent: You Sir, you have the look of a noble spirit upon you, perhaps you could assist me with a minor difficulty? The only reward is honor, the true treasure of a knight"
player responses: 1. One can never do enough honorable deeds, Tell me what assistance you need. 2. Perhaps you should tell me your story before I decide on anything. 3. noble spirit... you must be blind as well as old.
Henri De Someri responses: 1 & 2. I am Henri De Someri, I was on my way home from the holy land, when I fell in the brute Frans Hallmanns trap. He presented himself to me as a honorable german knight also on his way home. He offered that we might travel together and i naively agreed. On the first night of rest the snake showed its face, with his silver tongue he drove me in the trap. He slightly offended my kings honor and name. Dizzy by the drink he had given I fell into the most unworthy of conversations. A conversation which ended with me insulting him and the dishonest snake demanding satisfaction by duel. Then the thug had the nerve to point out that it would tarnish his honor to fight such an old man as myself. He proposed that I payed him 2000 money to satisfy his honor. Even if I had the money I could not pay that snake! The duel is to take place next morning outside of town. I am certain to meet my death by the hands of this young and agile knight.
3. I am sorry, I was mistaken. Go your own way then. (end of mission)
Player responses: 1. Never have I heard of such a villainous a knight. Frans Hallmann you say? In the morning? I will be there in the early morning, before you, and challenge this so called knight. You need not worry, he will be dead before your appointment with him. 2. Well, naturally your honor forbids you not to fight or to have me fight on your behalf. I wish you the best of luck and I promise I will arrange you a fitting funeral. 3. This is no concern of mine, if your honor forbids you to save your own life, then go to your death. (end of mission)
If player chose: 1. at dawn a party of one lvl 17 knight with very good equipment spawn next to Mantua.
2. at noon a text box appears: "you pay a local 100 money to collect the body of Henri De Someri, and to arrange a proper funeral. (mission won, minor xp reward)
If player chose 1 and initiates dialogue with Frans Hallmanns party. "In a small grove outside the city of Mantua, a omnious looking knight is waiting alone. He greets you with a slight nod."
player responses: 1. Frans Hallmann, you are not worthy of the sword you bear or the armor you wear. I will take both from your corpse. You are a thug and do not deserve to know the name of your attacker, fight! (fight begins) 2. Give him a slight nod and leave. (back to travel map)
If Frans Hallmann is defeated before noon, the mission is won(high xp award), if not it is lost.
(I didn't know the name of the currency, so I just wrote money) If these suggestions are of use to you, and you want more or want them rewritten, please tell.

Hello again, here is another quest suggestion, if you still need it. This is only a rough outline of a long investigation quest with many characters and alot of dialogue. This involves many characters in many towns and many town rumors.(I think all characters could be in place from the start of the quest. it is more a question of finding them) I have no idea if it is possible to make this(I am no modder). But if it is, and you like the idea, it would be fun to write a suggestion for the dialogue and other texts.
This is a very high level quest, only given when the player has a high and influential social standing/maybe even the leader of a city.
The papal plot main characters: The papal agent, priest from Milan The german noble, (in player faction/home town) The assassin and his colleagues, (in different towns) The master of forgeries, (in Milan) The german squire, (in player town) The master assassin, (in venice)
The story before the quest starts: The papal conspiracy is about discrediting Barbarossa in person and the Ghibelline's in general. The means is a fake diary of Barbarossa. In the diary is a horrid tale of diabolism and black magic(Barbarossa and named Ghibelline marquis have sold their souls etc..). The papal plan is to have a influential and respected person(the player) discover the diary. Then the papal agent hope to convince the player to present the diary to other nobles.
In the player town is a important german noble lodged at the tavern. The papal agent have hired a assassin to place the diary in the baggage of the german noble. At the same time the papal agent have hired a master assassin to first poison the german, then sound the alarm and kill the other assassin. This is where the quests start. The player is somehow called to the crime scene at the tavern. There is a dead assassin loaded with new Milan coins, and a dead german noble with a suspicious manuscript/diary. A confused witness, the squire.
The idea is that the player can follow up on two main leads.(the dead germans squire could hint them) 1. interview known assassins in different towns to discover who hired the dead assassin.(leads to papal agent and/or master assassin) 2. follow the coins, ask around for people with alot of new Milan coins. (leads to master forgeries and papal agent)
The master assassin is also paid to, if confronted, tell he was hired to kill the german noble-nothing else.(leads to papal agent)
When the papal agent is confronted, he will admit plotting to kill the german noble. He will say it was to steal the diary and show the world how evil Barbarossa is..... Now comes the choice to somehow accept the agents explanation and then show the diary to others. OR refuse to believe it and continue the investigation, and then if lucky or throughout in the search, hear about the master of forgeries, who can tell the true story(which then will damage the reputation of the pope).
Whatever the player choses to do with the diary, it will have very great consequences for faction relations.
If it is possible to have many different rumors in towns, then many small clues about where to find who and so on-could be spread over a long investigation. This investigation could be made more thrilling if the player was attacked by thugs, hired by a german(another papal agent). Then if prisoners are interrogated even more clues can be brought forth. The diary would be one long text. If possible, activated by a inventory item.
Well this must be enough writing for now, it was fun making up these suggestions. I can see it is some time since the last posts on this thread, so i will rest my pen-untill I know if/or how quest suggestions are needed.

grendel,
Yes I am working on it these days and I'm reading your suggestions. Very nice! It seems quite modellable and novel. I'll have to give comments more fully later, since the World Cup is calling.
I've sent you a pm.

here's another one. with all the dialogue.
Competition A Venice merchant, trading in exotic goods from Africa, is trying to ruin a new competitor. He has hired a english mercenary captain to highjack the other merchants caravans. The player is hired by the victim to find out whats going on and to protect a caravan.
characters: a merchant mercenary captain, sir Uther Fitzwarren Saracen captain, a maid, May Ipswick
I think this should be a challenging lowlevel quest.
Start at a random time(lvl 3-9) in any town(except Venice), when initiating dialogue with the local merchant. A new dialogue option appears: "Why do you look so agitated? What bothers you?" If the player ignores it, the quests ends, and starts again at random in another town. If the player asks whats wrong. The merchant answers:
"Oh it does not concern... well you do look like a resourceful young man/woman, you could help. Besides my usual stock I also trade in some rather exotic items. I have invested my family's money in this trade. I had to charter my own ship, because of a influential Venice merchants monopoly in this trade. But disaster struck, the first shipment simply disappeared after leaving Venice harbor. The second caravan also disappeared, but this time the slaughtered bodies of my men from (merchants city name) were found an hours road from Venice. The next caravan leaves in a week. Please help me, go to Venice, discover what you can and protect my goods and caravan and my men. If I make no profit from this one, I am finished."
player responses: 1. "Of course I will help a honest merchant of this fine city" 2. "I presume you will reward me, yes I will help you." 3. "Tell me, why do you sail out of Venice and what exactly are you trading with?"
Merchant responses: 1&2. Thank you, if this caravan makes it to (city name), I can pay you 1200 gold." (end of conversation) 3. Well...hrm, the only willing crew was some cutthroats from Venice, willing to travel far far to the south in dark Africa. I trade in horns and parts of the strangest animals. They are used for different purposes..hrm. I will pay 1500 gold upon the caravans arrival. Will you help?"
player responses to 3. 1. Yes, I like this town and want it to prosper. 2. No, I need no more enemies in Venice. (end quest, not to reappear)
NOW the player can just wait a week and try to protect a poorly defended caravan, leaving Venice, against a strong band of saracen raiders led by a high lvl knight/Uther F. This will probably end with defeat and the quest lost.
OR the player can discover the hidden mercenary camp and dispose of their leader(and a few saracens) before the full force and the knight arrives. - this means before the caravan leaves Venice, a week after quest start. For the camp/stationary party to spawn it is necessary to meet the maid in Venice tavern.
The investigation in Venice. if possible the players attention could be caught with a saracen lurking about in the town square. (he does not want to talk with the player)
Merchant responses to "what are people talking about....."
Weaponsmith: "Oh not much, the usual comings and goings....except of course that damned evil looking saracen over there. Whoever he is, when he is here, he must be employed by a local. I wouldn't want know...."
Armorer: "These days I am to busy to follow up on gossip. Almost my entire stock of old and used armor has been sold. And to one man that. A bit strange though, all hooded and secretive he was, couldn't see his face. An englishman I believe. He hired a cart and left town with the armor. Came back empty handed only two hours later... a bit strange. But then again, in this trade."
At the tavern in Venice is May Ipswick, the runaway maid of Sir Uther Fitzwarren. When the player initiates dialogue: "You see a young foreign common woman, the quality of her clothes show her to be employed by someone of standing. She looks a bit ruffled and her face is worn from long hours of crying. Now it seems her eyes have run dry and gone blank with despair. Her gaze meets yours and she speaks. Who are you? Have HE sent you?"
player response: 1. No one have sent me, and a good day to you too. (end of conversation) 2. Calm yourself girl, unless this is about some young man, then explain what troubles you. 3. You look like you are in need of assistance, tell my how I can help Miss...?
May Ipswick responses to 2. & 3. "sob..urm. My name is May Ipswick. I am from England and a foreigner here, where can i go? How? Erm.. I better start from the beginning. I am the maid of..no no longer. I was the maid of Sir Uther Fitzwarren, the infamous mercenary. He is the eight son of the old Lord Fitzwarren back in England, and therefore he took to the roads. But not to protect the commoners or anyone else. He is a murderer and a villain. Not a common robber no no, the plots he involves himself in is evil, and so is he. He has forced me to follow him as a servant for some five months, but yesterday I ran away. No more. But I cannot get out of town, even if I had the money to travel, his saracen thugs is waiting outside town. Please help me."
player response: 1. I would not want to come between a servant and her master. (end of conversation) 2. Maybe I could help you, tell me what you know about this Uther and his plans. Who does he work for now?
May ipswick response to 2. "I do not know the name, but he is hired by a local merchant to harass a competitor. In the last two weeks, he has attacked two caravans. He has hired and armed a band of heathen saracens to assist him. They are scattered about the countryside, to avoid detection. I heard some arguments between mylord and...i mean HIM and the saracen leader. I don't think the saracens trust him..... Uther. I know where the heathens leader is camped, its just outside town."
player response: 1. This is most interesting, I should go and see that saracen captain. I am sure you have been a valuable help. Thank you. 2. Here take these 100 gold, they should buy you some protection out of town, I suggest you leave at once. I will go and see the saracen captain. God speed.
NOW the the saracen leader and his few guards should spawn. When dialogue is initiated: "A tall and broad shouldered saracen warrior draws his sword and shout at you: HOLD there. What is your business here? Do not mistake us for heathens, we are not."
player response: 1. I make no mistake, die scoundrel! (fight begins) 2. I know who you are and why you are here. The next caravan is under my protection. If you care for your life you will leave now! 3. I care not if you are heathen, I want to know everything about your employer, sir Uther Fitzwarren. And then I want you to leave and abandon this job.... now speak.
saracen response: 2. You will not leave this ground! (fight begins) 3. You dare! The nerve...the courage... Very well, gold is my master, give us 500 gold and we can talk.
player response to 3. 1. You value yourself too high, that have cost you your life...fight! (fight begins) 2. Then meet your master, here. Now speak.
saracen response to 2. "Good good, we were hired in Palestine by sir Uther Fitzwarren, and he is a hard master. We are to rob some luxury carrying caravan. We have already done so twice. Thats what I know sir. The goods were taken off by Uther himself, I think to Venice. But thats all I know. Actually my men will be relieved to be out of Uthers employment. His is a dark soul. And now we will break camp and leave........"
NOW with their leader defeated or bribed no saracen raider party will spawn to attack the caravan. Mission is won if the caravan reaches its destination. Reward of 1200 or 1500 gold from the merchant. I think a big xp reward, and good relations with the town where quest was given. And worse relations with Venice. If possible an extra xp bonus if player gave the maid money to escape. Perhaps the knight Uther Fitzwarren could be a villain in a later high lvl quest. As it is unlikely he will be killed if confronted.

Murder and Treasure
in petronius house look under floor north aisle east end dnetsaeelsiahtronroolfrednukoolesuohsuinortepni
lowlvl consular mission start at any guelf city consul when asked of a mission. "Yes, I have something to ask of you, a small personal favor. One for which I cannot publicly reward you. But in secrecy and gold reward you generously, will you serve me in all discretion...yes?"
player response: 1. In all discretion, yes. 2. You must at least name the price for my services. 3. Discretion often means against the commune laws. I say No...in all discretion.
consul response: 1. Good, maybe you have a future here in (city's name). The service I need is one that never can be connected with my name. Nevertheless it is no matter to do. My sources tell me that tomorrow midnight, a certain pater Miguel will travel from the ruins of Canossa to the city of Bologne. This man carries a sealed letter. I want that letter with an unbroken seal. The mans life matters not for me. Do unto him whatever you must do. Now go. 2. The price is 3000 gold, enough to buy one such as you. 3. As you wish. I thought I saw a future freeman. Time will tell. (end of mission)
player response 1. I will handle this quietly, trust me.(end of conversation) 2,1 Yes I will do it. 2,2 I will take no part in this, with that prize, it must be too dangerous.(end of conversation) consul response to 2,1 as consul response 1 above. then end of conversation.
At midnight the day after, at canossa, a party of one priest will spawn. The party will travel to Bologne. The quest is lost if it reaches the city.
When dialogue is initiated with the priest, Pater Miguel: "Clad in the black robes of a Jesuit, the priest is hardly visible in the deep dark of night, With sword drawn you jump in front of him and he cries out: Please, sirs, I am only a monk I have nothing of value, spare me and be rewarded in the afterlife.."
player response: 1. Sorry brother. My mistake. God speed. (end of conversation.) 2. Hand over the message and you will live. 3. You have something of value and I will take it from your dead body. (fight begins)
Monk Miguel response to 2. "Yes yes, Here take the letter, but let me live please! (end of conversation)
End of quest..OR The Letter, after the fight, or after the conversation - the player now have the letter. At first when the player have the letter, a text box appears: "You examine the sealed letter to make sure it is the right one. The seal is definitely unbroken and that of the pope himself. Do you break the seal and read the letter?" Possible answers are yes and no. If No is chosen: the quest continues and is won when the letter is delivered to the consul. If Yes is chosen: The quest is lost, and a new quest begins:
The Treasure Hunt. The letter is the slightly obscured directions to the hiding place of some very important relics(the left hand of st peter). The letters text could be in the quest text? or connected to a inventory item? this is the letters text: "dnetsaeelsiahtronroolfrednukoolesuohsuinortepni" which is: in petronius house look under floor north aisle east end - backwards. Petronius house is the church in Bologne.
When the player enters the church and initiates dialogue, a new option appears: "Pater Pater, you must hurry, please, there has been a horrible accident in the town square. A priest is needed go there GO." priest response: "Thank you my son/daughter I will go at once...." (end of dialogue)
After this, a text box appears: "With the priest out of the way, you hurry to search the east end of the north aisle. Underneath a loose floorstone, you find a small silvered relic chest. Written in gold letters is the name Petrus. Inside the chest is a rather revolting dried human hand."
Now the player can give this relic to a Abbey or a priest anywhere but Bologne. Two new dialogue options appear when talking to Clergy(Try to sell the relic or present the relic as a gift.). If the player tries to give/sell the relic to the Bologne priest. He will answer: "You thief and desecrater of the church" The player will be arrested and mission lost. If the relic is delivered anywhere else: the church will pay 1000 gold and improve relations. Or they will accept the gift and greatly improve relations. And the quest is won. Rewards: If the player delivers letter to the consul, 3000 gold and minor xp reward. -relations with church and +relations with consuls city. If the player sells the relic, 1000 gold and medium xp reward. +relations with church and -relations with consuls city. If the player gives the relic to the church, a major xp reward.+relations with church and -relations with consuls city. Whether or not the player killed the Monk Miguel, should also influence greatly on church/pope relations.

Hello, here another very short quest, or a duel. Or actually a preface to my "dual at mantua" suggestion. I'm' not really sure if this is a good suggestion. Its a bit evil. The idea is to use the character Frans Hallmann, the villain of "dual at mantua"(see above somewhere, he is the one that earns a living off dueling weaker knights) in a early confrontation. The player(at lvl 1-2) meets him in a tavern. As the complete brute Frans(lvl 17 knight) is, he picks a fight with the player, and most likely beats him up. He does not steal anything, so since the player can't die, he loses only face. I think maybe it would be fun, to have these old insults revenged much later on in the"dual at mantua quest"
A too early duel start In the earliest beginning of the game. At any inn, a text box appears: " As you step through the door, drunken laughter greets you. Laughter at your expense it seems. A rough looking knight is obviously making gestures referring to your face. Laughter roars through the air against you."
When dialogue with Frans Hallmann is initiated: "As you approach the comedian knights table, his gaze hold yours with a arrogant and malicious gleam. He mutters a few words in german and the two patrons at the table suppress a giggle."
player dialogue options: 1. "(at the patrons) Are you so impressed by this barbarians eloquence, that you behave as his lapdogs, as well as being his, and his kinds robbed victims?" 2. "Sir, I am (player name), present yourself to me. And make your excuse, or continue the conversation outside." 3. "Excuse me, but I could not help noticing that you were referring to me, I wonder, what exactly were you trying to express in that guttural tongue of yours? Well speak up Sir" 4. "I am sorry Sir, do we know each other? If so I have forgotten your name... Who are you, and why do you take liberties at my expense?" 5. "Please Sir, refrain from humoring the locals at my expense. Goodday." (end of conversation)
Frans H response: 2. "I am Frans Hallmann, imperial knight. I cannot accept your challenge, as you simply are not worthy to issue such. But I will fight you, lowly and puny as you may be." (duel) 1&3. "You miserable peasant. You dare to speak words against me. Insulting my ancient language and my kind. Insolent little bug, oh you never learn...do you..peasant. If our emperor weren't' master here, you would all kill each other. You already do...ungrateful peasants." 4. "HAH, listen to it talk, it talks like its master. Perhaps you are the servant of a real man, whose talk you imitate.. are you...? peasant. Who is your master?"
player response to 1&3: 1. "Your emperor are no emperor, he is a german barbarian, as are you. Even the lowliest among us, have a nobler spirit than your precious emperor does." 2. "I disagree with your humor Sir, but I do have a sense of reality. Excuse my comment on your stock and emperor. Goodnight."
player response to 4: 1. "I am my own master, but you cannot grasp such an idea, can you. With you and your kind it is only slave or master is it not." 2. "You do have a point, we are not equals yet. To prolong this talk would be irresponsible of me and disgraceful for you."
Frans H response (to both above): 1. "Ungrateful and obstinate peasant. Do you not recognize your superior, do you not wish to live? As you wish, I will punish you." (duel) 2. "NO no it is too late for that, no excuses or prayers shall prevent me from punishing you now. Peasant." (duel)
after the defeat, a new text box: "As you hit the ground, beaten almost beyond death, you swear by your life, that never, ever will you forget the name of the villainous Frans Hallmann." Frans H will not rob the player, he is just a peasant. Maybe a quest "revenge yourself on Frans Hallmann" could become active. Just to remind the player that he is around.
In the unlikely event of victory. Text box: "Exhausted to the unbearable, through sweat, blood and tears you see the crowd become dead still, as the unconscious knight fall to the ground. A single cheer, then only silence. Nobody even dares to look at you when you make you way off." This should give a large xp bonus.
rumors To give the player the illusion of sometimes catching on Frans H's trail, a few rumors could be spread by merchants during the long timespan until the final confrontation. like : "Did you see who that was who just rode out the gate. The infamous Frans Hallmann, That knight is the devil incarnate. I tell you, the devil." or "Whats new...well I heard that one of the young (noble name) of (city name) dueled with Frans Hallmann in Milan. Needless to say, he lost." or "You are (player name), Ha! I heard of your little duel with that german robber knight, Frans Hallmann. Ha! you got it back then, didn't you? You better avoid (random city name), I heard that Hallmann was seen there lately."
It is perhaps a bit cruel to beat up the new lowlevel player like this.

Here's another suggestion. This is a complicated spylike story for a neutral or guelf player. As there is almost no fighting involved, I think it could be a series of quests for any level player. This is only a outline of the plot, if necessary I wouldn’t mind going into more detail with it.
Very rough sketch of the storyline: In Venice there is a secret Guelf information agency, the player is recruited by this agency. Officially this agency trades in rumors and news-and is neutral-actually they are Guelfs. After a few messageboy missions, the player will be caught in a web of plotting. A Ghib contraagent, undercover as a member of the Venice Agency, will plant misinformation with the player. The player then unknowingly delivers the evidence that will frame the loyal guelf Venice agent. The player could even be charged with the mission to kill this traitor. After this, the innocence of the murdered will become suspected, and the player must discover who is the actual traitor is.
The storyline is in three main parts:
Part One. The Venice Agency.(3 pick up/deliver quests, 1 deliver quest) main characters: Venice agent/agency leader. Ghib contraagent(a lesser ghib noble in a guelf town). Greater guelf noble in Milan.
In this part, the player is introduced to a "neutral information trade network" directed out of Venice. This is a network of merchants all over Lombardy, besides their usual tradings, they also trade in rumors and information. Only the leader of the network in Venice, actually knows that all the information is sought by-and sold to guelfs only. The player is hired as a messenger by the agent leader from Venice. There could be three message missions, probably like this: pick up information in a ghib town, deliver it to a Venice/guelf agent in a guelf town. (maybe the venice agency could give the guelf player some papers-to make entry to ghib towns possible?) During this, the player discovers that the network is guelf. In the last/third mission, the information is delivered to the contraagent. This one will ask the player to come back in a day. During this day the information is forged to incriminate the Venice agent leader-then the player is asked to deliver these documents to a important guelf noble in Milan.
Part two. Traitors must die. (a long conversation and possibly an assassination quest) main characters: Greater guelf noble in Milan, Venice agent leader.
In Milan, the player is told about the suspicions against the Venice agent leader. About the evidence and so. Then the player is asked to deliver judgment on the traitor in Venice(to kill his old boss). Whether the player accepts this mission or not, the Venice agent is killed. Some days after this, the player is called to Milan. The guelf noble explains to the player that there are serious doubts on the evidence against the Venice agent leader. (some kind of new evidence that contradict the incriminating one, delivered by the player). Now the player must decide to leave it all alone, or to investigate into the case to discover the truth.
Part three. The guelf who came in from the cold. (investigation quest) Main characters: The greater guelf noble in Milan, a guelf agent in Venice, the ghib contraagent, a guelf agent in the contraagents town, the informant from the third pick up-deliver information quest/part one.
Now there are three lines of investigation to pursue. The three leads are: 1. Venice. In Venice the player can discover that the framed agent leader was undoubtedly a loyal guelf. And that before the player was hired, several old informants in ghib towns were murdered.
2. The false evidence. The player could go to the informant who originally came with the incriminating evidence against the Venice agent leader. This informant can tell that someone must have tampered with the documents.
3. The contraagent and his town. The guelf agent in town will seriously doubt that the contraagent is a loyal guelf. The conversation with contraagent should be a difficult one. If it is possible to include dialogue options according to whether the player has talked with the other three main characters, then each could give a argument against the contraagent: informant: tampered with documents. Venice agent: agent leader was framed, he was a loyal guelf. guelf agent: contraagent is not 100% guelf loyal. My idea is, that if all three arguments are given to the contraagent, he will break and admit his guilt or in some other way give the player a big hint.
The end of the quest, success or failure, could be when the player goes to Milan to report his findings to the guelf noble. In this dialogue, there could be the options to 1. conclude that the contraagent framed the Venice agent leader(the truth). 2. conclude that the original informant was bribed by the ghibs to spread misinformation. 3. conclude that the Venice agent leader was guilty.(if player is bribed by the ghibs)
If action is needed, the story could be spiced with a few assaults by either ghib agents, or anyone else who could have an interest in the fate of the contraagent.

Hello, This is just to say that I haven't stopped my quest suggestion bombardment yet, But I must leave town for about a week. I will resume making up quests when I am back. I have really enjoyed making these suggestions, and I would enjoy it even more, if my suggestions could be directed into what is needed for the mod. (long quests? short quests? quests for what faction? with/without dialogue? action/investigation? and so..)
