I must admit I'm quite new to this game, still I got excited with this idea of LL, compliments .
I'd propose a couple of things (you have to pardon me if some of this threads have already been spoken and I didn't get news of them):
1) why not to make tournaments a choice, according to your status and preference? You could compete with others having bow or crossbow, three shots each (10, then 6, then 2 people competing on targets which shift farther each time); with melee weapon and shield, or on horse, orjust jousting, with lance. This would depend also on your status - only knights can joust (although i'm coming to think jousting as such came later in history ). And if coding it doesn't get too hard... So we come to second point:
2) Social classes. You should both be able to move from one another, still only with some difficulties (marriage following some tasks?) entering the nobles, or be born as such. You need to be rich to buy a horse, but a valiant fight (and considerable money) to be knighted. Consider that a law of young Barbarossa around half XII century forbade creation of knights not from a noble family - even though it could be easily be unrespected in Italy, as the limit for bringing chivalric weapons and so. Still, this could give you some land to get constant revenues &problems from (like bandits or armies pillaging them) ... does it fit to you?
3) As heroes, a couple of more people than Marno&Borciano, with the chance of different behaviour according to your choices - they don't want to side against Pope/emperor/peasants etc. so he leaves you if you do, maybe you meet him again later in enemy armies (and you can either release him and meet him again, or kill him - will it be possible to kill prisoners?, or change his mind if you have enough charisma), or they side with you only if you do something alligned with their idea... they could be separeted from you if you loose the battle, so you have to rescue them if you need them... and by the way, you should be able to be taken somewhere when taken prisoner, ransom yourself and finally die if it's the case! I take the worst damage, and in the next night I confortably leave with my friends, equipment, horse, money and all the like
last thing: why don't you animate people in town (walking, reacting to attacks, even assassinating and robbing in the night? Obviously, others could flee, come for help to any of the sides). In this case, it's good you can redirect to tavern/shop/whatsoever if you've already been in such a town - but if it's your first time you need to locate them, and if you wander in the night you're easy to find some one around the corner. You could also have a good brawl in taverns (no weapons allowed inside) and go to prison for a while.
This in my ideas - then I understand it would need a different game to do it, isn't it?
P.S.: by the way, if you keep a similar name to Borcha, remember that CH has to be rendered as CI in italian - for the rest, being ol' italian, it's quite possible names are spelled like that even though it's incorrect. I'm italian...
